Text messaging, fury, madness, irrational passion, poetry … the love affair between Romanian expatriates is a modern tale of borderline insanity and over-the-top submission. He is her butterfly and she is his porcelain doll … but is she the only one? He makes her happy and miserable through the blinding beauty of
his wings as he glides with an imponderable presence, landing gracefully in her palm. When he leaves, the emptiness cannot be filled by anyone or anything. Or can it?

Message to My Butterfly eBook Gabriela Sbarcea

For me the book was a most enjoyable weekend reading about a love story of a strong modern woman who once again gives love a chance. I must admit I do not read fiction too often these days but this book was a perfect combination of easy reading, interesting story, passion and ultimately, hope. As other readers, I could not put it down once I started it. How long can she fight for love? Is the ungrateful lover going to stop punishing her for loving him? Are they going to live happily ever after? I see this book from a perspective of a crazy busy world with rational people for whom love is rationalized, analyzed and finally discarded in a continuous race for perfection. Adelle knows what it means to be hurt by love and still gives love another chance. It is like in a recent song by Pink "Try" (which I think would make the perfect soundtrack for the book): "Where there is desire/There is gonna be a flame/ Where there is a flame/ Someone's bound to get burned / But just because it burns/ Doesn't mean you're gonna die/ You've gotta get up and try try try." So grab the book, a glass of good wine and a blanket, go to your favorite couch in the house and don't be afraid to fall in love along with Adelle and Tudor!

Message to My Butterfly eBook Gabriela Sbarcea Reviews

Message to my Butterfly is a great novel from first time author Gabriela Sbarcea.

Admittedly, it's not the type of book I'd normally read. Message to my Butterfly is an intimate two-person drama about a passionate but dysfunctional relationship. Everything else in the book - the settings, the cultural references - are nice and add flavor to the world, but they take a back seat to the female protagonist's emotional journey, and Sbarcea does an excellent job (maybe even too excellent at points) making you feel that character's every emotion . . . especially her pain.

Some people may find the dramatic focus overwhelming. I did at times. But the writing was consistently good enough that I never wanted to stop reading. And I was well rewarded for my persistence every time. Like many good works of art, when I finished I wasn't sure what to think about the book. But I was certainly still thinking about it.

If you accept Message to my Butterfly on its own terms, I think you may well enjoy it and really get something out of the prose as I did.
In a world gone mad, is the madness real or merely imaginary? A Message to My Butterfly is a story of the love between two ex-pat Romanians who put the question to the test. The love that Adelle and Tudor share runs the gamut from lush and lusty to fractious and fragile. Text messaging from the time they meet, they are bound to one another through creativity and mutual desire. Hers is driven by a need for true unequivocal love; his is spurred on by a need for love without commitment. A rambunctious womanizer, Tudor stretches the bounds of their relationship until it fractures, cracks, and finally breaks.

But Adelle's adamant determination to reunite and rebuild wins the day. The question after all the experiences the two share together is will it also win over the years!

Split between her newly found love for America, her Chicago-Romanian community, and her family back in Europe, she turns to Tudor for solace and finds more in him than ever she had imagined.

This is a tale of conflicting personalities, disturbing tendencies, and undying love on several different levels. It's a great fulfilling read, loaded with rich characters, intriguing physical settings, art, poetry, music, and madness. Read it today for memories to last a lifetime.
Author Gabriela Sbarca must be a Romanian expat herself, because she describes the world of young(ish) adults exploring love in another country so vividly. Her dramatic protagonists, Adelle and Tudor, fall in love over Facebook and texting and their exchanges, reproduced in the book, are honest, moving, and engaging. Passionately drawn to each other in Chicago, one wonders how successful their relationship would have been in their native Romania would they have not even noticed each other, or perhaps, surrounded by friends and family to ground them, would their love have lasted longer? I liked the book, and the text messages/Facebook posts--with their immediacy and recognizability--were the best part.
The way Ms. Sbarcea tells a story is great. You can't tell this is her first novel. Well done, well composed, she tells a wonderful story.
This is a terrific debut novel from Gabriela Sbarcea. I could not put it down. The author writes of a tumultuous love story between two Romanian ex-Pats who express their love, lust and sometimes animosity through text messages. Anyone who has ever loved someone with such extreme passion that it hurts will relate to the novel and look forward to the next read from Ms. Sbarcea. This is a moving, passionate, erotic and wonderfully well written book.
A quite engaging book of a girl that lets you “walk” through her heart and mind in relation with her unshared love. She takes you through her struggles to build her sand castle of love just to see it over and over ruined by his cheating, own struggles and lack of interest. Finally, she realizes that her dream “home” is just sand and, sooner or later, no matter how far she builds it away from the waves, any simple rain can wash it away. I felt it misses an epilogue, but maybe because it was a captivating read. The book looks couple times one-sided, as the man comes-up suddenly with some ideas whose roots are no so obvious without some context that is not provided.
